CP AXTRA and UNICEF Join Forces to Help Children Access Nutritious Food Through the “Good Food for Children with UNICEF” initiative

BANGKOK, 27 August 2026 – CP AXTRA Public Company Limited, operator of Makro-Lotus’s wholesale and retail businesses, and UNICEF Thailand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding under the “Good Food for Children with UNICEF” (Aaharn Dee Pee Hai Nong) initiative, building on their shared commitment to improving children and young people’s access to safe and nutritious food.

Siriporn Dechsingha, Chief Corporate Sustainability and Communication Officer, CP AXTRA Public Company Limited said, “We believe good nutrition is the foundation for children’s healthy growth and quality of life. Therefore, we are bringing together the strengths of our wholesale and retail businesses - including our food expertise, supply chain and Makro–Lotus’s networks - to help children and young people access safe and nutritious food.”

Siriporn added that the partnership with UNICEF will further strengthen CP AXTRA knowledge and expertise in nutrition and ensure all efforts deliver meaningful results. This year, CP AXTRA aims to support more than 100 schools and create better nutrition opportunities for more than 30,000 children and young people.

“We believe lasting change requires the collective efforts of all sectors to ensure that children in Thailand have access to good nutrition. This means they can grow and develop to their full potential, and enjoy a better quality of life.” Siriporn said.

Thailand has made important progress in nutrition over several decades, but challenges remain. According to the 2022 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey, conducted by the National Statistical Office and UNICEF, 13 per cent of children under five in Thailand are officially classed as stunted. Children from poorer households and those living in remote areas are particularly vulnerable to stunting. At the same time, child obesity is on the rise. The number of overweight and obese children aged 6-14 has doubled during the past 25 years, from 6 per cent to 13 per cent. Among adolescents aged 15-18, 14 per cent are now overweight or obese.

“Good nutrition is about much more than what is on a child’s plate. It shapes how children grow, how they learn, and the opportunities they will have in life,” said Ken Legins, UNICEF Representative for Thailand. “At a time when the global fuel crisis is forcing families to make difficult choices, this partnership matters now more than ever. Together, we will create more robust evidence on child nutrition, improve meals, and help vulnerable children and families access healthier food in every area of their lives. By bringing together UNICEF’s evidence and expertise and CP Axtra’s reach and innovation, we are working towards a simple goal: a future where every child has the chance to eat well, grow well and thrive.”

Customers of Makro and Lotus’s can also support the initiative by donating through collection boxes available at more than 400 Makro and Lotus’s stores nationwide. Their contributions will help give children greater opportunities to access good nutrition, grow and develop to their full potential, and enjoy a better quality of life.
